Shipbuilding, The USA

In shipyards, hand welding brings heat distortion and surface damage. Steel plates warp, coatings blister, and retrofits suffer. Documentation becomes a burden, with manual records prone to error. Skilled welders are increasingly hard to find, often due to labor shortages and the demanding nature of shipyard work. As a result, production timelines can become strained.

Rapid Arc Welding (RAW) changes that.

Scope of Work

We’ve been working closely with this shipyard for over four years, helping keep their RAW machines in top shape and supporting their team through dedicated maintenance training. This two-day workshop focused on the D36 series.

The program was designed to help welders build the confidence and skills to spot issues, troubleshoot problems, to carry out repairs, and to keep their equipment running smoothly and reliably in the real-world conditions of the shipyard.

Supporting the Shipyard: Maintenance & Training

On the day of the training, welders came prepared, with broken equipment in hand and problems to solve. The training quickly turned into a live repair lab. Carlos Aires, our RAW Maintenance Trainer, worked side by side with them, diagnosing issues, running diagnostics, and making fixes. By the end of the session, the team asked for gun repair instructions and spare part lists, ready to get to work.

“Working shoulder to shoulder with the shipyard welders on RAW machine maintenance was all grit and focus. They tested every tip in real time, turning know-how into action. Teaching these pros was a privilege. It reminded me why sharing knowledge matters.”

- Carlos Aires, RAW Maintenance Trainer

This team gained a deep understanding of the D36 machines, and is now able to spot problems, fix both mechanical and electronic issues, replace key parts, and confidently identify the right spares. They’ve even mastered the SILICON coding system, minimizing downtime and keeping machines running smoothly.

SILICON Fasteners

SILICON fasteners are precision-engineered to meet the highest standards, delivering consistent, lab-grade welds, even in challenging corrosion-prone field conditions. Every stud and fastener is fully compatible with SILICON’s RAW systems, ensuring seamless performance and minimal downtime.

What’s more, we can re-engineer any hand-welded fastener to work with our RAW technology. Tasks that once took over five minutes per stud can now be completed in under half a second with flawless repeatability and zero rework.

RAW Basic Operator Training

RAW Basic Operator Training is another resource to help your team work smarter and faster with our technology. With the right training, a single operator can handle tasks that would typically require a larger team, boosting productivity without compromising quality. With welds completed in milliseconds, heat distortion drops, coatings stay intact, and every weld is digitally logged. This training helps teams meet production goals faster, with fewer people and fewer errors.

It’s ideal for engineers and technical support staff working in industrial environments who want to understand both the electronic and mechanical aspects of RAW machines, including differences between D36 model generations.
