Oil Refinery, Hai Leck, Thailand

At one of Thailand’s most strategically significant refineries, reliability is the cornerstone of operations. Located in the country’s premier petrochemical hub, this facility stands as one of the most efficient in the Asia‑Pacific region. To support its complex 175,000 barrels-per-day capacity, SILICON has been appointed to engineer, deliver, and install a specialized refractory anchoring solution.

In March 2025, Hai Leck approached us to take on this assignment as a standalone project, a chance that allowed us to step in with full responsibility for both planning and execution. Projects like this highlight the strength of our team when operating independently: our capacity to analyse complex conditions, make informed technical decisions, and carry the work from concept to completion with precision.

These one‑off engagements not only broaden our experience but also showcase our capability to deliver reliably on our own, adding meaningful depth and diversity to our overall project portfolio.

Scope of work

This repair addressed critical integrity issues within high‑temperature process equipment where existing refractory linings and their mechanical support systems have reached the end of their service life. The assessments identified widespread loss of reliability in the current anchoring arrangements, combined with refractory degradation caused by prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures and pressurised operating conditions.

To restore structural stability and ensure long‑term operational performance, the damaged anchoring systems were removed and replaced with newly welded anchors capable of supporting thick, fibre‑reinforced refractory layers while accommodating thermal expansion and cyclic loading during operation. To restore mechanical stability and ensure operational safety, the existing anchors were removed and replaced with new refractory anchoring systems, installed using specialised and tightly controlled Rapid Arc Welding (RAW) technology to ensure consistent quality control.

SpeedSerie® Anchors

The SpeedSerie® Anchors, including SpeedHex® 3, SpeedHex® Mini, and SpeedVee®, were selected to address the demanding mechanical and thermal requirements identified at the site. These anchor systems are specifically suited for refractory applications where high temperatures, vibration, and pressure fluctuations place continuous stress on the lining and its support structure. Their geometry and material configuration enable reliable load distribution within thick refractory sections while maintaining strong weld attachment to the base material.

This SpeedSerie® range provides a controlled and repeatable anchoring solution that supports precise spacing patterns and consistent installation quality, which is essential for preventing refractory cracking, detachment, or premature failure under severe operating conditions.
