What is Rapid Arc Stud Welding?

Reduce downtime by using Rapid Arc Welding (RAW)

When furnaces need to be repaired, the refractory materials are demolished and the anchors are removed by grinding or gauging. Once this is done and the surfaces of the furnace are free from refractory concrete the surface is marked out to indicate the locations where the anchors need to be placed. Subsequently these positions need to be ground to a clean metallic surface using a grinder.

We do not require the use of electrodes. Our anchors are designed in a special manner so that it supplies its own weld filler material. Normally a welder using an electrode will weld these anchors and it takes him about 10-25 anchors that he can weld per hour. SILICON can offer to weld these anchors at a rate of 120-250 per hour, using our RAW technology which is about 10 times faster than using an electrode. This means you need fewer persons in the confined space to be able to carry out the same work. Additionally the welding process does not emit any toxic fumes, such as when using an electrode, so special breathing gear is not required.

Fast and reliable technique for fixing refractory anchors

When you frequently weld a lot of studs or our specially designed Refractory Anchors, it might be worth considering renting a Rapid Arc Stud Welding machine. Our machines are time and money savers and the rejection rates are almost ZERO%.
Our computerized semi-automatic drawn arc stud welder gives you the best route to trouble free stud welding and the highest levels of quality control, through the use of ‘state-of-the art’ computer technology. With this machine you are able to control all the variable functions. This is an exceptionally fast and reliable technique for fixing Refractory Anchors, shear connectors, and many other operations for the construction, refractory, shipbuilding, automotive industries, and a variety of engineering applications.

The stepper-motor gives a repetitive, accurate control of the studs' movement, position, and velocities during the weld. If you're interested in the way studs are welded using Rapid Arc Stud Welding, check out the Principle of Operation step by step.
